Course Prep Marathon

As you get your classes ready for the spring semester, the team of the Center for Faculty Excellence and Teaching Innovation (CFETI) invite you to participate in the full-day online Course Prep Marathon on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. The day will focus on strategies using known pedagogies and technologies to enhance the student learning experience.   • 12:00pm Welcome and Introduction to CFETI
    This opening session will provide an overview of CFETI’s team, services, and resources.
  • 12:10pm How To Use Backward Course Design
    This interactive session will introduce participants to how they can utilize Backward Course Design to align their course content, course materials, and assessment practices with the desired learning outcomes (e.g., Course Learning Outcomes, Program Learning Outcomes, GE Area Learning Outcomes etc.).

  • 12:45pm Getting Your Syllabus Ready: How To Use SJSU’s Official Template
    This hands-on session will introduce participants to the official SJSU course syllabus template. Participants will be guided step-by-step through the process of editing information on their syllabus.
  • 1:15pm Break
  • 1:20pm Creating an Effective AI Policy for Your Course
    This session will introduce participants to AI-related services and resources that CFETI offers. In particular, this session will show participants how they can create an AI policy for their courses.

  • 2:05pm Getting Your Students to Read and Annotate with Hypothesis
    This hands-on session will introduce participants to Hypothesis, a digital tool that instructors can use to train students to actively read, think about, annotate, and discuss any digitally available text.

  • 2:35pm Is Your Course Accessible? How To Correct Inaccessible Course Materials
    This session will introduce participants to ways they can assess if their digital course materials are accessible and remediate any content that is not accessible. Participants will also learn how to identify and create accessible course materials.

  • 3:00pm How To Gauge Student Comprehension and Engagement
    This session will show participants how they can use tools such as Poll Everywhere, iClicker, or Zoom to determine students’ comprehension of and engagement with course content and materials.
  • 3:45pm Conclusion
    In addition to an open invitation to connect with CFETI’s instructional design and development team, this section will provide an overview of forthcoming programming (e.g., workshops) that may be of interest to participants.
