We welcome parents and family members to participate in Parent and Family Orientation — an optional opportunity to learn more about SJSU and discover how you can support your student’s success. We offer tailored orientation programs for families of both first-year and transfer students.

While at orientation, you will learn and talk about: 

  • Information on class registration and paying bills
  • SJSU traditions and culture
  • Academic requirements
  • Housing & dining options
  • Health & wellness
  • University Police
  • SJSU policies & procedures

Who Should Attend

Parent & Family Orientation is designed for any parent, family member, or supporter a student wishes to have with them as they begin their transition to San José State University. Most sessions allow up to two guests per student, and orientation fees for families apply.


How to Sign Up

If you are a parent, family member, or supporter who would like to attend orientation, please coordinate with your student to register.

All Parent & Family Orientation registrations must be completed through the student’s Next Steps portal, where they will add you as a guest during their sign-up process.

Note: Parents and families may only register for the same orientation session their student is attending.
